North Texas Wealth Management Guide to Retiring Smart
You’ve earned your retirement. Enjoy it!
We know that for many people – especially those nearing retirement age – the mere idea of retirement or retirement planning can be exciting and stressful. You’ve contributed to your company’s 401(k) plan, and may benefit from pension or profit-sharing programs, but you may still be unsure if you have what you will truly need to retire.
With our four-phase process you will learn what you need to know and what you need to do now to plan for retirement, and as a result will be more optimistic and confident about your retirement years.
Learn more about the four steps to achieving your retirement objectives:
Phase 1: Discover your options
We know and understand that each person’s situation is unique. Your financial condition, coupled with your definition of retirement success, is the guiding criteria to help us determine the most suitable plan for you. Meeting your retirement objects will result from developing a long-term plan and sticking to it. The first step is to meet with one of our skilled and thoughtful financial planners to discuss your current 401(k) and/or pension plan, other investments, overall financial fitness, and what you consider to be your retirement objectives.
In the first meeting, we get to know you and understand your personal priorities. We will ask you to bring the following documents and records, so we can better assess your current situation and develop an actionable plan to help you address your retirement needs.
- Current paycheck stub(s)
- Monthly Expenses worksheet*
- 401(k) statement and investment choices
- Most recent tax return
- Pension plan estimates
- Statements from other investments
- Social Security statement
Taking that first step is as simple as setting up an initial meeting with one of our Certified Financial Planner™ professionals – a no-pressure, information sharing visit with no investment selling, commitment required, or cost to you. Call or email us today to schedule this important first step to retire smart.
Don’t feel you’re ready to meet with a financial planner, or you would like to learn more about what we do? Join us for an upcoming complimentary dinner and Retire Smart Seminar ™.
Phase 2: Design a custom plan
In this second meeting, your retirement planner will present a custom plan based on your financial information and personal goals shared in the initial meeting. This in-depth outline includes an analysis of investments and assets, insurance coverage, tax and estate planning strategies, and go-forward recommendations for your personal retirement income and investment plans.
We believe that clients should know and understand how their financial planner is compensated prior to implementing investment recommendations. The Financial Consultants at Ricker Retirement Specialists offer fee-based financial planning through LPL Financial, a registered investment advisor. Since each financial plan is customized for each client, we believe our fees should be, as well. For the sake of transparency, we always fully disclose how we are compensated in each individual retirement plan, whether it is commission, hourly rates, or management fees.
Additionally, when needed, we collaborate with other experts to make the best recommendations for your financial plan. Some of our partners include:
- Certified Public Accountants
- Estate and probate attorneys
- Life and health insurance experts
- Long-term care advisors
- Mortgage lending specialists
- Social Security/Disability attorneys
- Social Security and Medicare professionals
- Tax attorneys

Do you set into action a strategic plan to pursue your retirement objectives or leave it to chance? When you choose to move forward with Ricker Retirement Specialists, we put your custom plan into action exactly as we have discussed and agreed upon. Phase 4: Monitor your customized retirement plan
The process doesn’t end with us implementing your personal retirement plan. When you become a Ricker Retirement client, you become part of an important team to ensure your retirement objectives are met. Your financial planner regularly reviews and reports your progress toward reaching your retirement goals.
Each quarter, we review and update you via email or phone, regarding your investment strategies and progress. Additionally, when life events such as a birthday, marriage, or job change occur, your quarterly touch base call is a great time to give that information to us, and we can let you know if it will impact your plan or if we need to make changes to your plan.
Once a year, we offer one-on-one annual reviews to each of our clients. It is important you meet with your planner for a detailed annual review to discuss and confirm your current and future priorities and objectives, and make revisions to your plan as necessary.
As a client, you can always access your plan information 24/7 by visiting the Ricker Retirement Specialists’ Client Center. This is a valuable resource for our clients to review information between quarterly statements and annual visits. In addition to accessing their account information online, our clients are always welcome and encouraged to call and speak to someone regarding their plan at any time.
